It lies at the foot of the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment, and is particularly famous for its elephant and tree climbing lions. The name Manyara originated from the Maasai word Emanyara (Scientifically known as Euphorbia Trucali) this is a kind of plant used by Maasai society as a fence protecting their cattle from predators like Lion, Leopard and Hyenas.

The park has dense ground water forest and bushes filled with wild animals, birds and insects. During game drive one can witness great herds of elephants, antelopes, giraffes and the rift valley escarpment while descending through the entrance gate.
